The Vision
Citizen Tram was a film made 40 years ago when talks about scrapping Melbourne's trams were a reality for some.
Thankfully we had the vision at the time to keep trams in Melbourne unlike other Australian cities.
As the short clip from Citizen Tram shows, trams were a part of the solution to Melbourne's early congestion problem.
In 2008, times have changed and trams are now caught up in increasing congestion. Click

Keeping Melbourne Moving is a $112 million program that can deliver the solutions to our traffic congestion crisis.
So what's involved?
Extending tram and bus priority to help make public transport an attractive alternative to driving.
Developing the bicycle and pedestrian network by building and upgrading shared paths, separating bike lanes and boosting priority.
Standardising clearways on existing arterial roads within 10km of the Melbourne CBD to keep up with the earlier starting and later finishing of peak hours.
Expanding VicRoads' Rapid Response Service to arterial roads to keep traffic flowing by quickly moving breakdowns.
Minimising the impact of roadworks and events on traffic, especially during peak times through improved planning, management and communication.
Educating road users on how they can help reduce congestion.
Stronger enforcement of road rules for motorists.
Support the vision for a more liveable Melbourne and let's keep Melbourne Moving.
